SUCCESS!
Dudes! I did it! I completed the 20 Song Challenge, and it was an incredible experience. (If you’re just joining us, the challenge was to write and record 20 songs in 12 twelve hours. I did it on Saturday, February 18, 2012.) The final result ended up being all over the place stylistically—think of it as a kind of sonic sketchbook. Most of the lyrics were improv and a good bit of the music was, too. I was intentional about not being meta by referencing the challenge itself in the songs. In the end, I think there are 3 or 4 really nice gems that I could harvest and polish. Around 4:30 I got really delirious and was seeing/hearing things and I couldn’t stop laughing at myself—this shows through in the songs. All-in-all, this was a most righteous experience, and I would love to do it again.
As promised, the entire “album” is available for free from my bandcamp page: joshlafayette.bandcamp.com. It should be noted that the songs appear in the order that they were written/recorded.
*DISCLAIMER* There are two swears on the album. In the songs, “Be My Best Friend” (shit) and “Best Friends (You and Me Lil’ Pup) (motherfucking). So, you know, don’t leave your children unsupervised with those songs or anything.
I’d love to answer any questions that you may have about the project as whole or the individual songs. Fire away in the comments below!
The “album cover” above is available in my Society6 shop.

How’d you get so rad?
A couple of dudes in Boston taught me.
This is so bad to the bone. Kudos for finishing the challenge, but mad props for it sounding so damn good!
Wahoo! Thanks, Derglus!
